TIMESMOJOKERTO, JAKARTA – If you feel exhausted and need something to freshen up your body as well erasing your drought, es Nona of Pontianak could be an alternative for you.

This drink is almost the same with several local popular drink in Indonesia such as es Dodger or es campur. Es nona could be found on a humble pushcart to restaurants in Pontianak.

If the regular es doger will be filled with fruit fermented cassav, jelly, bread, and coconut meat served in shaved ice, syrup, coconut milk and condensed milk, Es Nona will be filled with crystalized papaya, red beans soup, jackfruit and jubes.

For the soup, the regular es doger will use coconut milk whereas es nona will use a solution of limestone and betel leaves. This will make the taste of this drink a little bit tangy yet invigorating.

You could make your own es nona at home.

Ingredients.

    500 ml water

    6 sdm cocopandan syrup

    80 gr crystallized papaya

    50 gr tapioca pearls

    30 gr jackfruit

    30 gr grass jelly

    40 gr fermented cassava

    4 sdm red bean stew

    condensed milk

2 tbs of limestone and betel leaves solution

Instructions:

* Mix limestone and betel leaves solution with water and cocopandan syrup and then put it on the freezer till it froze.

* Put fermented cassava, grass jelly, red bean, crystalized papaya tapioca pearls and jackfruit in a bowl.

* Shave the ice you made earlier and put it on top of the bowl. Add the condensed milk on it and your Es Nona of Pontianak is ready to serve. (*)
